The new GX Series grand pianos aim to reproduce the delicate control of a full concert grand piano, delivering a level of refinement that few pianists can experience.

Made in Japan, the GX-1 offers a level of elegance and craftsmanship unsurpassed for a piano of its size.

Spruce is the perfect material for piano keys because it is light but strong.
It maintains its shape and responds well, allowing pianists to express subtle nuances in their playing.
The keys are longer for easier playing and a more uniform feel, and they have a taller profile for added strength and power.

NEOTEX is a key surface material made of cellulose fiber that mimics the smooth texture of natural ivory and ebony.
Its semi-porous, silica-filled surface absorbs hand oils and sweat, providing a consistent feel for all the keys.
NEOTEX is durable, crack-resistant, and static-resistant, preventing dust build-up. This results in a beautiful, long-lasting key surface that offers great playability.

The hammer rail is the backbone of the piano’s action. The GX series features a strong and stable hammer rail made of durable extruded aluminum with a unique Dual-Beam design.
Both the hammer rail and wippen rail are securely locked in place to maintain the precise action design, providing consistent touch throughout the piano’s life.
The hammer rail’s finely serrated surface holds each hammer flange securely for optimal alignment, while the flanges made of PBT resin prevent action screws from loosening due to changes in size.
These design elements create a solid foundation for the GX Series, ensuring accurate keystrokes over time.

The soundboard is essential for a piano, converting string vibrations into a rich sound. Kawai uses high-quality, straight-grained, quarter-sawn solid spruce for the soundboards in the GX series.
Each soundboard is carefully tapered to ensure optimal resonance. Only those that meet Kawai’s strict resonance standards are chosen for the GX series grand pianos.

CORE stands for “Convergence for Optimum Reflected Energy.”
It describes how the piano’s structure—its rim, plate, and beams—converges at a central point. This design creates a strong foundation that enhances the piano’s ability to reflect sound, resulting in a powerful tone and long sustain.

The exclusive Konsei Katagi rim combines different hardwoods to create a perfect sound.
It uses fine-grained hardwoods for brightness and projection, layered with denser, coarse-grained woods for warmth and fullness.
This blend results in a rich and balanced tone, which is a defining feature of Kawai pianos.

The bridge is crucial for transferring string vibrations to the soundboard.
GX bass bridges are made of high-quality hard maple or beech.
Treble bridges are vertically laminated with 13 layers of maple and mahogany for added strength and better sound transfer.
STRENGTH

SOLID construction provides a strong foundation to support string tension.
First, the pinblock is attached to the plate.
Next, the pinblock and stretcher bar are combined into one solid structure and securely fastened to the rim.
The thick stretcher bar enhances the framework’s strength, ensuring stable tuning and a resonant tone.

The plate is the acoustically-neutral iron superstructure of the piano over which the strings are tensioned.
All GL Series plates are moulded using the Vacuum Mold Process (V-Pro) with “Crossbone Design.” The result is a plate that is strong, stable, and beautiful.

The GX Series design combines the classic look of a grand piano with elegant new details.
Its gentle curves and wide music rest maintain traditional characteristics, while the thicker upper beam adds structural strength and enhances the overall design.
Kawai’s special painting and finishing process gives the piano a luxurious ebony polish finish.
The GX Series impresses with its striking design when you open the top board.
You’ll see the beautiful golden frame, fine woodwork, and high-quality finish along the inner rim.
The luxurious black felt adds to its elegance, and the Kawai frame mark confirms the craftsmanship.
These features capture the essence of ‘THE GRAND’.
